eagles landing, overlooking the illinois river
starved rock state park
on saturday, we went to starved rock state park. it was packed with people. we hiked along the illinois river and through some little ravines. it was beautiful, but nothing compared with the pacific northwest. but we'll see if shenandoah changes our minds.
after that little trip, the weekend was all about food. todd got a charcoal grill we hadn't used yet, so he made us some great steaks and corn on saturday. we had a barbeque on sunday with our friends the korbels, and another with our ward on monday. we should barbeque every weekend because really, pretty much anything barbequed is delish.
we also watched several episodes of "band of brothers," which helped us remember that memorial day is about more than food. we are so grateful for the brave soldiers who have sacrificed everything to keep our country free.

Oh, you are lucky you are coming to the most beautiful part of Virginia! I will say you can't compare it to the west because they are just different. But shenandoah valley is gorgeous!!
