to celebrate my birthday, we went on a weekend trip to the historic town of galena. galena's claim to fame: ulysses s. grant lived there when he was elected president.
we took a fun trolley tour around all the historic buildings and rented bikes to ride the wooded trail along galena river... turns out we could have spent about 3 hours there and done everything we cared to do. we don't like touristy kitsch. and we are not b&b people.
we got bored and drove around the rolling hills, where we discovered a waterfall. we also got bored and drove to dubuque, iowa. that was so uneventful, i can't believe i even mentioned it.
on the bright side, the place we stayed was once a weekend retreat for the soup nazi. he was kind enough to sign a headshot and a ladle to hang on the dining room wall.
NO SOUP FOR YOU!
