We got a late start on Tuesday due to exhaustion. Also, guess who was sick? Me, of course. I rarely get sick, but somehow I picked up something that lingered for weeks.
We spent a while wandering around looking for suitable tennis shoes for me to wear, to the Hotel de Ville, then met Shelbey at Notre Dame. I got no pictures of the outside, and the inside was really dark. It was sort of like all the other cathedrals... dark, foreboding, not a place I'd really want to spend much time. Pretty much the opposite of LDS temples!
Caitlin lit a candle for some saint. I'm still not totally clear on the purposes for the different shrines and sanctuaries and chapels.
Cait spotted a space invader (famous street art) across the street from the Palais Garnier. After a two-hour lunch at a Parisian Cafe that was not built for parties of 7, we went back to Notre Dame for a choral and organ concert. It was beautiful and the acoustics in Notre Dame were unbelievable.
After the concert I felt like death. The younger siblings headed home, but Todd and I went with Mom and Dad to the Musée d'Orsay. We had to go through really quickly because it was closing, but we got to see several works by my favorite painter (Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot) and Degas' La Clase de Danse. The art was beautiful, but once again, the building (an old railway station) was the showstopper for me.
We left the museum and were serenaded by street musicians as we walked across the Seine to the train stop. Can you think of anything more Parisian?
