Todd and I spent last weekend in Georgetown to celebrate my 26th birthday. I picked him up from the airport on Saturday and we ate seafood at a little place on the canal and walked around M Street.
The next morning, we had brunch at a little French/German place, where we ate croissants, waffles, other various sugary items. I was determined to have the most unhealthy day of my life-- I also ate an entire bag of my favorite Tim's Chips for lunch. I could hardly regret it, they were so delicious.
All I really wanted to do was wander around Georgetown looking at the architecture and gardens. So after brunch, that is exactly what we did. We walked up the Exorcist Steps to the Georgetown University campus, then wandered around looking at the pretty row houses.
About halfway back to our hotel, we got caught in a torrential thunderstorm. I had an umbrella, but umbrellas aren't much help when the rain comes down sideways. It was pretty funny--we were totally drenched.
Beside having my husband back and wandering Georgetown, my other birthday wish was to see National Cathedral. I've never been to any of the grand cathedrals in Europe, so the size of this thing shocked me! It is huge. It took a hundred years to build, and it is exquisite.
The Gothic architecture was so cool--the stained glass was insane. I've never seen such saturated color. These pictures don't even come close.
We looked all around the grounds and the inside. It was interesting for me to see the sacred place of another religion. It was very... austere. The symbolism seemed so fearful and cold, it made me appreciate my own. But it was grand and amazing and I'm really glad I got to see it!
