Maymont

As of today, we have been married for two whole years. Very exciting. Two years down and a whole lot left to go!

Our trip to the beach at the beginning of the month was our big celebration. But we celebrated a bit yesterday with a spur-of-the-moment trip to Richmond. Todd decided wanted to eat at Texas de Brazil, and the nearest one is in Richmond. I was tired of going to Richmond and not actually seeing anything but the mall or the airport. So we did a quick stop at Maymont before dinner.

Maymont was the main residence of the Dooleys, the same couple who built Swannanoa (where we went 2 weeks ago). The estate has several gardens, lots of open space, animal exhibits, a mansion, and several other buildings.

We spent an hour walking through the Italian garden and the Japanese garden. Both were really beautiful, and a lot better kept than Swannanoa.

Can you imagine having a full Japanese garden (complete with monster-sized Koi) in your backyard?

We didn't get to see the interior of the mansion because we had to leave for dinner. But it's filled with the original furnishings, so you know I'll be back to see that. Luckily, Todd has already consented to go with me.

We love beautiful Virginia, we love each other, and we love being married!

I've been wanting to go there, but haven't. I will once we get back. I miss Virginia horribly. It's by far the best state I've lived in. I've been so tempted to get in the car and head home. Bryson and I miss it!

That place looks amazing! I know it's different but the size/amazingness sort of reminds me of Mr. Darcy's huge estate in Pride and Prejudice! Happy two years!!
