love or hate... they sure are pretty.

last night, we watched twilight: new moon.
i abhor all things twilight. but marissa, twilight hater, was actually a little interested in seeing new moon. and i thought i at least needed to give it a chance. so i rented the first movie from netflix. todd was shocked.
the acting was awful (except jessica), and the storyline was worse still. someone fire the makeup artist for the paste foundation that he/she didn’t even bother to blend at the jaw line. and randomly flying out of windows? dashing up tree trunks?
i could go on and on about the plot failings and general ridiculousness… but the most disturbing of all is bella. obsessive, co-dependent, constantly depressed without the presence of the pasty one. i do not understand her, nor why we should be watching a film that romanticizes her psychosis.
nonetheless, i decided to rent the second movie. there were improvements. they got a better makeup artist. bella stopped biting her lip and sighing in exasperation every half-sentence. but the plot was similarly lame and predictable (possibly even worse than before), and the characters were still crazy.
jacob is maybe a good guy. but bella still chooses to hang out with him even though he could technically get pissed and kill her. little weird, but she doesn’t care about him anyway. she strings him along and uses him. she is a pitiful and selfish drama queen who takes complete advantage of someone who cares for her.
and then there’s bella and edward. they are completely obsessed with each other… with no concrete reason why, other than that they cannot resist one another. she cries (and screams) and becomes anti-social for months when he leaves. she tries to kill herself to get his attention. i understand passion… but bella is a violently co-dependent nut case.
i don’t know how women obsessive over these completely abnormal and unhealthy relationships. how is this series popular? what is wrong with the world?!
i will not be watching the forthcoming twilight movies. todd is glad for this.

AMEN!!! I've never understood the hype behind this series. First of all, the books are HORRIBLY written and I'm embarrassed the author is a BYU grad. Second of all, the character of Bella takes us back to the days when women lived and died for their men and little else. Ugh. I HATE Twilight.
I agree...I don't know why people are so obsessed with this series. I read the first book and was completely disappointed because the movie kept playing in my head. I wish I had read the book first, I think I would have enjoyed it more without the DRAMA from the movie flooding my mind as I read. Blah.
So Wicked was amazing! Loved it! And I cannot tell you how much I was hoping you were going to say Charlottesville! I really hope it works out because that's only an hour away from me...plus C-ville is the most beautiful place on earth (in my opinion). First thing you've got to do is visit Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home. Keep us posted on your decision!
My reaction to Twilight was childish. I was laughing through the whole movie and it probably should have been embarrassing. I think the series is ridiculous.
p.s. I think you have an interesting blog. Yours is one of only 2 or 3 I look at on Kirsten's list. We need to come out and hang you with you guys this summer before you leave Chicagoland
Twilight. Sucks. Bad. And what's with Edward's face in the second movie appearing whenever Bella is about to make a bad decision. Holy Ghost parallel, Stephenie Meyer?
