st. patrick's day
we went downtown this morning for the annual st. patrick's day river dyeing and parade. it rained the entire time we we there, making for awesome hair and soaking shoes and clothes.
every year for st. patrick's day, the chicago river is dyed with some kind of mix they drop out of the back of boats. the boats then drive around to swirl the dye in with the river water. (watch a stop-motion film of last year's dyeing here)
right off the riverwalk where we took the pictures above is wacker drive, a double-decker street. this photo is of lower wacker drive, which you may recognize from the chase scene in "the dark night." (taken for shelbey)
after checking out the river, we walked down michigan avenue to millennium park to watch the parade. i was so disappointed! it was the lamest parade ever. the provo freedom festival would beat it easily. but at least we got to see the big bagpipe and drum band. we left after 15 minutes because we were soaking wet.

OMG OMG I started freaking out before I even saw the explanation for that photo. I feel honored.
How fun!! I would so be there! And I am emailing you back tomorrow :)
I was in Chicago that day but eventually decided not to make the effort to go downtown for the parade. It looks like it was probably a good decision due to the weather. Thanks for the reassurance.
