it's christmastime in the city

last night, we went to my company's holiday party-- a dinner cruise on lake michigan. sounds classy, right? it turned out to be kind of a booze cruise, and incredibly boring. but the view of the city was beautiful, and we got to try out our fantastic new camera. still learning, clearly.

we ventured outside for a few minutes and froze. the temperature was in the 20s plus the normal chicago windchill, plus extra windchill from a moving boat. we were really really cold, which is pretty evident in this picture.

and my hair went crazy.

we stayed on the 17th floor of a hotel downtown last night, and walked around michigan avenue and the theatre district this morning. we passed two of my many favorite chicago buildings, the carbide and carbon building (a hard rock hotel) and trump tower. on the corner of michigan avenue and wacker are markers for where fort dearborn once stood. one of todd's great grandfathers plowed the first "furrow" of land for the fort, before the city even existed.

we went to christkindlmarket, a little german/international christmas fair. we got there really early, before it opened, and it was too cold to wait. even the pigeons were crowding around a candle flame for warmth. but we did get to see the city's christmas tree and the little shops from the outside.

todd's only request for this post was that i add this picture of me. so here you go.

chicago is beautiful at christmastime. it is also beautiful any other time of the year, so i suggest visiting when it's a little warmer. we'll take all the visitors we can get for next spring and summer!
